THE WINNERS

Hi All,

The Turnpoint Challenge committee has decided to close off the Victoria 2019 Turnpoint Challenge season as of the 30 March 2020 given the current COVID circumstances.

When we set this up, we had in mind the following goals:

  • A fun informal challenge to encourage pilots to venture away from the hill
  • Fly with purpose, develop your skills, make new friends.
  • Statewide, All-inclusive, Season-long event commencing 1/9/2019
  • Several classes to cater for. Pilots of all skill level, novices encouraged to compete
  • Awards ‘ceremony’ at end of season

Apart from the last dot point (stymied by Covid19) I think met all of these.  So well done to all the pilots who competed. It was the inaugural season which I think went really well.

From the start of the season on the 1/9/2019 28 pilots submitted tracklogs across a range of classes from beginner to expert.

The feedback we received to date is that the comp is worthwhile and people got a lot out of it which is great.

The less experienced pilots were asking lots of great questions.  They learnt a lot about equipment, flight planning and navigation as well as pushing away from the hill.
The more experienced pilots found challenges in hitting difficult turn points and seeing how many they could get in a single flight.
It provided some new direction, challenges and interest for even very experienced pilots

A couple of points before I get into the results

Very importantly I want to thank the Turnpoint Challenge team for their work and support for the challenge and especially to Geoff Wong for setting up the challenge on HighCloud.  It made this season possible.  We really appreciate the work and effort.
Depending on how the world tracks over the next few months we are setting a tentative start date for next season to be 1/9/2020.
We have learnt a lot this season.  Our aim will be to use those learnings to improve and expand the comp for next year.  I will send more information out on this prior to Sept.  Just too whet the appetite some of the changes we are targeting are significant system upgrades and a broader spread of turn points.  Watch this space!

Now for the important stuff .. the results!

It is a goal of the Turnpoint Challenge team to keep the challenges free, however, we do have costs to cover.  We are wanting to raise an additional $1,500 over the year to cover running, promotional & event costs.

If you'd like to donate as little as $5 for participating in one of our challenges we would be most appreciative!
